ABOUT FRIENDS OF STOCKWOOD OPEN SPACES
We're a local group set up early in 2009 to protect and improve the open green spaces of Stockwood, for the benefit of local people and wildlife. We're now one of many Bristol 'Friends' groups of residents who value their open spaces.
Along with the 'Stockwood Open Space' local nature reserve, Stockwood also benefits from the brook valley downstream of Saltwell viaduct and the Whitchurch Railway path, part of NCN Route 3.

Already, the Friends have, with council support, carried out organised 'clean-ups' to help get rid of flytipped rubbish and litter. We've had talks and guided walks dealing with the wildlife of the area. We've cleared one of the ponds on the Open Space and the Holsom Close steps, we've helped put up bat-boxes, and we've started on some habitat restoration. We're helping to tackle the spread of Japanese Knotweed. We're reaching agreement with the Wildlife Trust and the council on who does what on the Open Space, and we're getting stuck in to rejuvenate the old orchard there.
The annual subscription is set at two pounds a head; there's a membership form on the newsletter
